If you have the Singer L500 machine - Please look up winding bobbin in your manual. if you have any other machine that loads the bobbin in the lower front of machine - This machine is refer to as a Vertical Machine. Step one - Place a spool of thread on the spool pin, and secure it with the spool pin cap. Pull the thread out from the spool through thread guide. Step 2 - pull end of thread through hole in bobbin as shown in your manual. Step 3 push bobbin winder shaft to the far left position, if it is not already there. Place bobbin onto shaft with end of thread coming from top of bobbin. Push bobbin winder shaft to the right until it clicks. Hold onto the end of thread. Step 4. While still holding the thread start machine. Bobbin will automatically stop turning when completely filled. Push shaft to the left to remove bobbin and cut thread.
If you lost or misplace the owners manual you can always go on line at singer.com to look up the owners manual for your machine. You then can download it to your computer or you can print it out. The owners manual are filled with very helpful information about your machine. Keep it in a handy place where you will have it if need to refer back to it. Depend on which front load machine you have - you would remove the bobbin holder, insert the bobbin and then pull the thread down around the thread picks. Then insert the bobbin holder with the bobbin loaded back onto the shaft into the bobbin casing.
I do not know enough about the Singer L-500 but I do know that it came with a CD with instructions about that machine. The owners manual that the L-500 machine came with also has the step by step directions inside for you to see.

Its not too hard, place your thread on the spool holder and make sure you place the thread holder in place, wrap the thread around the raised silver ( look like a raised button) button then thru the hole on your bobbin and secure the bobbin on the winder and push to the right, that should take care of it. ** be careful not to go too fast or the thread will begin to wind under the bobbin **

I have Vista operating system. It is a 32 bit system. If you have a 64 bit system then you need to download a patch from Singer. You can use Windows 98, Windows xp, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows Vista - it does not matter as to which one of the above listed just as long it is a 32 bit. If your software is running with a 64 bit - again - you will need to download the patch from Singer.

You should have zero problems with windows 7 provided you shut down your virus scan and firewall along with anything else running in the back ground this can easily be done by hitting Ctrl + Alt + Delete and see what is running in the task manager and also by going to the right hand corner and shutting down all un-esstential items including internet connections, before loading any software to your machine as this will effect it's ability to read the program.

If the handwheel is hard to turn there is a possibility that thread from the vertical spool pin has accidentally been allowed to wrap around it. Or there is some other source for the bind internally. Either way the machine will need to be serviced. The parts and labor for this repair during year 1 would be covered.

When doing embroidery it may be necessary in some patterns to manually adjust the needle tension during a design. Areas with satin fills or column outlines can have tension issues. Another tip is to go around the bobbin tensioner button 2 X's when winding a new bobbin this adds a bit more tension to the bobbin thread. Also select the "Speed Limiter" in the Machine Navigator prior to sending a design to the machine will also help with tension issues or is helpful when using difficult to sew thread such as metallics.

The Futura Library Designs are their own special format and can only be opened through the Library menu. The Futura "native" format is FHE. Designs created in the Futura and then saved in FHE remain in block form which allows them to be edited.

The Futura will read, save, and open designs in any of the following formats:

FHE, CHE, DST, EXP, XXX, PSW, HUS, SHV, VIP, SEW, JEF, PES, PEC, and PCS. When importing design we have found that HUS, VIP and SHV design import with the closest to the designs true colors. DST, PSW, XXX, and the rest of the formats do not have a color file that is readable to the Futura software and will display on screen in random colors.

We hope this helps!

There are several possibilities why you are having trouble.

1. Are you getting the Machine Navigator when you select Transmit To Machine from the File submenu? If the Navigator does not open it could mean that the unit is not fully connected to the machine. You will need to turn off the machine and reconnect the unit, making sure it snaps into place and the embroidery unit initializes when the machine is turned on.

2. You are getting the Navigator but not sending the block; or you've sent the block and expects the machine to start sewing automatically. You need to push the Start/Stop button to initiate the sewing.

These are just a few of the possibilities.

If you are still having trouble, please contact Customer Support for more help. Contact information can be found on this website under Customer Support.

Because of the shape of the machine this model will not lower into standard cabinets. It would be possible with a lift cabinet to place the machine on top for embroidery, but it will not lower through the opening.

Thank you.
