Question
How do I get a broken needle tip out of the base of the sewing machine?
The needle hit a straight pin and the tip (about 1/2 inch) fell into the base. I removed the needle plate but could not locate the broken needle tip. Will this damage my machine?

Yikes! Yes the broken needle can cause damage to your machine. Try using a magnet to draw the needle out. I've done the same thing and have gotten it out both by using a magnet and also by gently turning the machine upside down and gently shaking the machine to try and coax the broken needle out.

Yes, the broken needle tip in you bobbin shuttle area could damage your machine. Please check our Warranty Center listing to find a service center near you.

Also, SINGER recommends removing pins before sewing over them as this can break needles and through off the timing of your machine.

Make sure the bobbin winder is not engaged. Push the bobbin winder all the way to the left. If the bobbin winder is engaged, the machine will not sew.

You can piece any size quilt but a full size is about the largest you can quilt with ease. You may be able to quilt a larger quilt if your batting is thin.

This answer depends on the thickness of the batting you are using. Using a thicker batting will make rolling the quilt into the throat area more difficult. You will be able to sew a standard size quilt on this machine.

The stitch length control can be found on the front of the machine under the stitch pattern buttons. To increase stitch length for the straight stitch (creating a basting stitch), simply move the lever to the right to the desired length. Full instructions can be found on page 30 of the instruction manual.

Thank you for contacting the Singer Sewing Company. For that machine to fit into the cabinet will depend on the machine that came out of the cabinet. If the machine that came out was a Flat bed, then this machine will not fit.

Hope this helps.
Thank You.

Unfortunately no, none of the newer machines will screw into older sewing machine cabinets. I took an older 1960s Singer sewing machine out of it's original cabinet and had a fold up bottom made for it and retrofitted the top sewing surface to lift up. I lower the sewing machine into the bottom for storage. When I'm using the machine the bottom fold back so my legs don't hit the bottom piece while sitting at the table. Since this cabinet had plastic doors I also made new doors, stripped it and re-stained it. I reused the original folding hardware on the top surface. The bottom is a little lower than the doors since it was a last minute decision to make the false bottom. I had already made the doors at that point. All in all it turned out pretty good. I looked into buying the automatic lift shelves that new sewing machine cabinets use but they are very pricey and you need a very deep cabinet to utilize the lifts. I hope this is helpful.
