The process and ability to dropping the feed dog on a sewing machine depends on the model of machine you are using. If your machine is equipped with Free Motion sewing then you should move the feed dog lever (usually found on the free arm of the machine) in the direction indicated in your manual. If your machine does not include this feature then you will need to use the Darning Plate that is included with the accessory packet. Full instructions can be found in the machine's instruction manual.

Yes, I had the same thing happen. The Singer Stylist likes the thread to go into the tiny bobbin hole first - pull the thread up and through one of the tiny holes. Then start winding your bobbin. Make sure you only sure the clear plastic Singer bobbins, too. You should have no more trouble.

Instructions on winding the bobbin can be found on page 16-17 in your manual that is included with your machine. Be sure to push the bobbin winding shaft to the right to engage the bobbin winding motor.

I haven't tried to sew anything that heavy. But it has powered through multiple layers of woven fabic with ease. The motor is smooth and strong.Just make sure you use the right size needle. Probably a size 16 regular point will do the trick.

We do not recommend our machines for such thick material. You should use an industrial machine for such projects.

Question
The machine is making a ticking noise
My husband bought the machine for me for Christmas and now it is making a ticking sound. The best I can tell, it is when the needle is going up and down and the metal hook looking guide(#5 in the threading order) hits this metal piece located on the machine.

I suggest you consult a repair shop for that answer. It sounds like it has a problem. Make sure you have the right presser foot and the right stitch. Have you changed the needle? Checked the needle placement?

First, you should replace your needle by following the directions in your manual. Also, be sure you are using SINGER needles as other brands can cause problems on a SINGER machine. If that does not fix the problem, you should contact a Warranty Center closest to you to discuss repairing the machine.

You can find a Warranty Center here: http://www.singerco.com/support/us_warranty.html

There is a DVD that comes with the machine. It shows all the general uses for these machines, not specifically the 7258. The DVD is called "Ready, Set, Sew". It is an instructional DVD, but like I said, not specifically for 7258, but does come with the machine.
