It has a light, but not one that is useful. It is dim and in the wrong area of the machine in my opinion

Why doesn't the manual images match up with what my machine looks like?
I'm trying to set up my new sewing machine and I threw the manual away since I knew how to set up my old one. Turns out I needed it so I came here to find the answers I was looking for. When I looked through the manual to set up my bobbin, the pictures didn't match. My bobbin holder doesn't look anything like the one in the picture at all. I'd really like to get sewing and not have to buy a new machine again.

The 5500 Fashion Mate sewing machine has a front load bobbin. Pages 16 and 17 of the manual have illustrations to show you how to remove and load the bobbin.

Question
How do you attach the "hard side cover"?
Every Singer I've owned has has a way to attach the cover to the machine. There is no apparent way to do this with the included cover and no instructions in the Instruction Manual. This thing just sits on top of the machine and must be removed to transport. Help!!

You are correct, it merely sits on the machine. basically just a hard
shell dust cover.

Question
Thread guide fell off
When the needle was removed to change, the thread guide fell off and we cannot figure out how to put it back. It is a small wire device with a curl on one end (where the thead goes) and has a U shape.
